What’s die-cutting? Well, come on in and we will explain all the methods for die-cutting anti-slip tape that you will need to know!

People often wonder what we mean about ‘die cutting’. Customers question what it is, why tooling is often required, what Heskins can achieve and what is feasible. I hope this helps to provide insights. Die-cutting is the method for converting our anti-slip materials into a shape. We produce our products in rolls upto 1.5m wide with lengths upto 100m. People often wonder what we mean by ‘die cutting.’ Customers question what it is, why tooling is often required, what Heskins can achieve, and what is feasible. We understand your curiosity and would like to provide you with some insights. Die-cutting is the method we use to convert our anti-slip materials into various shapes. We produce our products in rolls up to 1.5m wide and lengths up to 100m. To create a specific shape, we need to die-cut them.

Now, let’s explore the three main methods of die-cutting:

Press Cut

At Heskins, we possess multiple large-scale, flat bed presses. We invest in the latest CNC controlled machines with the widest possible bed size, typically around 1600mmx900mm. However, we can create even larger die cuts by splitting the tool into component sizes. Our machines are equipped with inbuilt auto-pressing capabilities, utilizing automated SICK capabilities. To further enhance efficiency, we modify the machine to have auto web-fed capabilities, eliminating the need for a normal sheeting procedure. This allows for much faster production and lower costs by reducing labor. We primarily use rule tooling, which ensures the longevity of the shape. Each produced part is an exact replica of the tool, guaranteeing total consistency and quality. Our accuracy is an impressive 0.1mm, ensuring precise and accurate die cuts.

Rotary Cutting

When it comes to speed, rotary cutting takes the lead. A rotary press is essentially an advanced mangle that drags the material through at high speed. The material then encounters a shaft that presses tightly onto a rotary cutting tool, creating the desired shape. The end result can be sheeted, kiss cut (cutting through the product but not the backing liner), or with the skeleton removed (the waste material around the product that is often not required). At Heskins, we do not use abrasives on our rotary cutting machines to avoid generating abrasive dust that can damage bearings and valves. However, we can offer kiss cutting on abrasive materials upon request by adjusting the depth settings. It’s important to note that rotary cutting tools are generally more expensive than rule tooling, but the process is extremely fast. Although the accuracy is slightly less than 0.1mm, it still ensures precise and consistent cuts.

Laser Cutting and Water Jet Cutting

While laser cutting and water jet cutting are available options, we generally don’t recommend them for die-cutting anti-slip tape due to certain limitations. Laser cutting can burn the backing paper and often generates fumes. On the other hand, water jet cutting can saturate the backing paper and cause back-blast, which can drag tiny debris particles back onto the surface, resulting in dirty margins. However, we offer a range of other services at Heskins, which you can explore on our website’s Services page.

At Heskins, we strive to provide tailored solutions for our customers. Depending on your order quantity, we can create a fully bespoke package for your business, designed to help reduce waste and costs. Our aim is to deliver high-quality, consistent die-cut anti-slip tape that meets your specific requirements.
