The technology behind the advancement of non-slip tapes

At the time of writing this post I am on a high speed train amazed by the wonders of modern technology and the benefits it brings to us, the train is a pioneering technical work of art, it got me thinking ; maybe I should explain some of the more unusual and technical items we produce, albeit on a much more humble scale than this fantastic train! We often find it difficult to fully describe and quantify all of the different and bespoke materials we produce, often they are made for a single application or a single customer, however this allows Heskins to show the potential that a customer can talk to us and try and develop a product that suits them perfectly, a material that meets their specific requirements. Below is a small section of some of the non-standard materials we made, hope this inspires you to provide us with another challenge – today’s problem is tomorrow’s solution!

Conductivity

When we were first asked about conductive non-slip materials, I have to admit, it created a lot of headaches, I left physics behind when I was 16 and none of my colleagues did. ‘has helped. There are requirements, in some applications, for a conductive abrasive security tape; most applications have focused on two requirements; 1. In extremely fire sensitive areas it is highly necessary to have a floor covering or gripping material that will conduct a load. I’ll give an example; you have a production environment where there is a pervasive potential for flammable vapors, it can also be a tough environment where you need a good quality non-slip surface. If someone creates an electrostatic charge it has the potential, if not carried away, to spark, that spark can present life-threatening dangers in this situation. What is needed is a non-slip conductive material that dissipates and carries the load until it is gone. 2. In the case of sensitive electronic equipment, even the slightest imperceptible static charge can cause complex equipment to explode, this load must be allowed to be grounded. Conductivity is measured in ohms, due to the many previous and ongoing projects we are involved in, Heskins has its own conductivity tester, although we are strong advocates of external test centers that allow us to provide data sheets. impartiality on the use of our ohm equipment allows us to refine and improve the product. For us, we have to constantly test and then modify the materials. We can provide conductive materials in almost all of our materials, even those based on PVC. Removable adhesives

As mentioned in a previous blog post, my goal is to constantly change our adhesives to make sure that we take advantage of new and advanced adhesives that are appearing in the market to create the ultimate, permanent adhesion. Every now and then we have occasional requests for removable adhesives on our non-slip tape, they may be needed for various reasons. A removable adhesive is often the most difficult to fix, which can be perfect for one client who may be too strong or too weak for another. The adhesion is affected by the substrate it adheres to, several tests are often required, and Heskins are prepared to perform them in-house and then provide you with a suitable removable anti-slip tape for field testing.

Support liners

Often overlooked and viewed as ‘just that back paper that gets thrown away’, but for many customers a modified backing liner has a huge impact that can allow them to speed up production, reduce waste, and more. On our safety, aqua-safe, resilient, cushion grip, H3418 and H4644 series we use siliconized paper (usually white as this allows customers to draw and plan on it if necessary, but kraft and honey colors are possible with a custom printing) for our conformable and PermaStripe range we use a film liner, usually PET, but we have used others in the past. We allow you not only the option of choosing the choice of liner but also its release value (how easily it is removed from the material), its color and the possibility of having an oversized liner (very easy to remove) or a snap-back liner (also easy to remove, it has a slit line). Environmental plastics

Like all responsible companies, Heskins always wants to improve our impact on the environment (we will soon be approved to ISO14001 status, this will be in addition to our long-standing ISO 9000 approval). The customer must always be offered the possibility of making a reasoned choice. Most of our materials are made from PVC which provides fantastic durability and flexibility and durability unmatched by other plastics. Many customers prefer materials that are easy to recycle. We are happy to offer our non-slip tapes in PE format, PE is phthalate-free material and has much lower environmental impact. Almost all of our range can be offered in this alternative, we usually only make PE material to order, which requires MOQ etc, but please inquire. Samples are available.
