Conformable Non-Slip Tape on A Cruise Vessel

Safety-Grip

One of our customers recently sent us photos from a conformable non-slip tape application job on a cruise vessel. View the results inside….

Safety is paramount in any environment, but it takes on added significance in maritime settings. The common theme of slips, trips, and falls on cruise vessels demands innovative solutions to ensure passenger and crew safety. One of our customers recently shared a remarkable application of conformable non-slip tape on an inland waterway cruise vessel, showcasing its transformative impact.

The Challenge: Durbar Plate Staircases

Access stairs on cruise vessels are often constructed from durbar plates, a type of steel flooring known for its raised, diamond-shaped pattern. While this pattern might seem practical, it poses a significant slip risk. The raised peaks of the durbar plate don’t enhance traction; instead, they reduce the engaged surface area, resulting in a potentially hazardous, low level of grip, as measured by the coefficient of friction.

The Solution: Conformable Safety-Grip Anti-Slip Tape

Recognizing the need for enhanced safety, our customer turned to Heskins for a solution. The answer lay in our Conformable Safety-Grip Anti-Slip Tape, meticulously designed for durbar plate applications. Unlike traditional plastic film, this tape features a soft aluminium foil base. This foil base has a unique property – it has no memory. When pressed into the valleys of the durbar plate, it conforms to the surface and remains in the exact shape, ensuring a secure fit.

The upper surface of the tape comprises a conventional abrasive, similar to our standard Safety Grip, ensuring excellent traction even in wet or dirty conditions. The use of diamond-hard aluminium oxide on the surface not only provides exceptional grip but also extends the tape’s lifespan, ensuring long-term slip prevention. In addition, the aluminium foil backing offers high flame retardancy levels, meeting the rigorous standards specified by CAA FAA Specification 8.

Options and Customisation

Heskins offers Conformable Non-Slip Tape in a range of colours, including black, white, yellow, and black/yellow, and various roll sizes and die cuts. This flexibility ensures you can select the size, width, and colour that best suits your needs. For larger orders, we can even create bespoke sizes, shapes, and colours, matching Pantone or RAL references.

Application: A Seamless Process

To ensure a flawless application of conformable anti-slip tape, we recommend the use of our rubber mallet. This tool ensures that the foil adheres directly to the valleys of the durbar plate, providing the most secure grip possible. You can watch our how-to video on the application of conformable anti-slip tape for a visual guide.

The Results: Effective and Aesthetically Pleasing

The outcome of this conformable non-slip tape application is nothing short of impressive. As the photos demonstrate, the solution not only provides exceptional slip resistance but also enhances the aesthetics of the cruise vessel’s durbar plate staircases. Safety and style coexist seamlessly.

In maritime environments where safety is paramount, Conformable Safety-Grip Anti-Slip Tape stands as a formidable ally in the battle against slips and falls. Its versatility, durability, and efficacy make it a valuable addition to cruise vessels and other marine settings.
