Heskins Anti Slip Crush Cutters: Bespoke Anti Slip Tape Production

Safety-Grip

We receive many questions regarding bespoke anti-slip tape production. Here, we go into detail about our anti-slip crush cutting methods. Read more..

One of the common questions we often receive at Heskins is, “Can you produce rolls of abrasive anti-slip tape narrower than 19mm?” The answer to this question is a definite “Yes.” However, there are some important factors to consider when it comes to producing narrow rolls of our highly durable Safety-Grip anti-slip tape.

Heskins Safety-Grip anti-slip tape is renowned for its abrasive quality and extreme toughness, making it ideal for providing long-lasting slip-prevention protection in challenging environments. What sets our anti-slip tape apart is our unique manufacturing process, which involves not one, but two coats of resin to secure the grit in place. This process is both expensive and time-consuming, but it ensures that the grit remains firmly adhered to the tape, even after prolonged use. This durability is a crucial characteristic of our anti-slip tape.

The durability of Safety-Grip anti-slip tape means that it must be cut using specialised blades that rely on pressure rather than sharpness to make precise cuts. Our specially designed anti-slip crush cutters employ extreme pressure, with multiple blades applying tremendous forces onto a reinforced support roller. Each of these blades is 19mm wide, which sets the minimum roll width at 19mm.

To meet the demand for narrower rolls of anti-slip tape, we utilise special thin blades that are only 10mm wide. These narrow blades are designed for the sole purpose of cutting narrow rolls of anti-slip tape. However, it’s important to note that these narrow blades are not as durable as their wider counterparts. The forces involved in the cutting process can damage these narrow blades, rendering them unsuitable for regular slitting requirements. As a result, these special narrow blades are reserved exclusively for producing thin rolls of anti-slip tape.

Creating a narrow roll of Safety-Grip anti-slip tape, such as a 12mm wide roll, involves a time-intensive process. We start by removing all the standard blades from our anti-slip crush cutters. Next, we install the special narrow blades to the cutters to achieve the desired width. After the narrow rolls are cut, we remove all the narrow blades and reapply the standard blades for regular production. This meticulous process ensures both precision and quality in the final product.

When it comes to pricing, Heskins typically follows a pro-rata pricing structure for rolls of anti-slip tape. This means that a 50mm wide roll would be priced twice as much as a 25mm wide roll, and so on. However, when it comes to widths narrower than 19mm, this pricing structure does not apply. We must account for the time required to change the blades over and the fact that we cannot produce as many rolls as we would with wider widths due to the excessive pressures applied in a small area. As a result, narrower rolls come with a different pricing model to accommodate these unique production challenges.

In conclusion, producing narrow rolls of abrasive anti-slip tape like Safety-Grip at Heskins is indeed possible, but it involves various considerations and challenges. The use of special narrow blades, the time-intensive blade-changing process, and the distinct pricing structure are all essential factors to keep in mind when requesting narrow widths. We hope this article sheds light on the intricate process of creating narrow-width slits of Safety-Grip anti-slip tape at Heskins.
