Heskins’ range of anti-slip tape is an effective and stylish way to put pool goers at ease when it comes to their safety. Whether you’re preparing a home pool or a public leisure facility, safety is everything. Slippery pool tiles, wet surfaces, and damp flooring are an ongoing risk, but with the right non-slip tape for pools, you can reduce that risk without compromising comfort or appearance.
To get the most out of your anti-slip pool tape, knowing how to apply it properly goes a long way in maximising your product’s lifespan and easing the stress of setting up your dream pool. This blog will guide you through best practices for applying non-slip tape in wet areas like swimming pools. Let’s dive in.
What Will I Need?
Before we can even think about making your pool slip-free, we first need to choose the right non-abrasive grip tape for the job. Out of all of our 72 tapes, which one best suit our purposes?
Aqua Safe Anti-Slip Tape is a tape that is kind to skin and clothing, has no grit to shed unlike its abrasive counterparts, it can be customised (printed and cut), and most importantly, it is a waterproof tape. Aqua Safe is designed precisely for this use case and is just the tape you need for this context.
Here is everything you will need:
- Heskins Aqua Safe Anti Slip Tape waterproof, non-abrasive, and comfortable underfoot
- Cleaning equipment including brushes and Heskins IPA Surface Cleaner for residue free prep
- Seam Roller for pressing the tape down evenly and removing trapped air
- Edge Fix for preventing edge lift, especially in wet and high traffic areas
Although the surface is waterproof, the adhesive itself is not waterproof during application. Therefore, the pool must be dry and empty before you apply your tape. The adhesive will bond to the surface much more strongly this way, and you won’t have to think about replacing your tape for years.
Surface Preparation
You’ll notice a theme throughout this post: longevity and performance. The more care you put into preparation, the longer your tape will last.
Start by giving everything a good scrub. Brushing away dirt, dust, and debris will stop any bumps or imperfections from forming beneath the tape. Use the IPA Surface Cleaner to remove stains, grease, bacteria, and other contaminants. It dries in seconds and leaves no residue, so you can move straight on to installation.
Tape Application
Make sure that your tape is aligned properly and in the desired location. Whether it’s for the steps or for bordering the pool, a neat and tidy layout improves both safety and appearance. Once you are happy with your placement, remove the backing and lay it out onto the desired surface.
As people walk around and general wear and tear occurs, the edges may lift over time. To prevent this, apply Edge Fix along the sides of the tape to seal them in place.
We are nearly done applying your tape for the pool area. The final step is using your Seam Roller to press the tape firmly down and eliminate any air bubbles. This ensures a secure bond with the surface. Leave the pool tape to cure for 12 to 24 hours before filling up. As tempting as it may be to jump straight in, this window allows the adhesive to fully set and deliver maximum grip.
