We will guide you in the removal of your anti-slip tape in the most efficient way. Read on for our top tips.
We know Heskins anti-slip tapes are challenging to remove, given their strong adhesive backing, but luckily for you, we have a solution!
Equipment you will need:
- Heat Gun
- Scraper Tool
- Heat Protective Gloves
Step 1 – Apply Heat to Anti-Slip Tape Using Heat Gun
For safety, we recommend you put heat-protective gloves on before starting. Then apply heat close to the non-slip tape using the heat gun, melting and loosening the adhesive layer, allowing you to remove the floor tape more effectively.
Be careful in this step, as heat guns get very hot. A surface temperature of around 60-70ºC is ideal.
Step 2 – Using a Scrapper Remove Tape
Once the tape is hot and the adhesive layer has loosened, peel back the floor tape from one of the edges using the scraper tool. Once lifted, use the slow pull method, scraping underneath, loosening the tape further from the surface, and making removal easier. If the safety tape still appears stuck, reheat that section and repeat.
What is the Slow Pull Method?
When removing the tape, we suggest the slow pull method. Essentially, you’re slowly pulling the non-slip tape from the surface, removing it with heat and pulling slowly. A benefit to this method is the increased amount of removed adhesive due to the pulling motion rather than a hard tug. It also ensures the tape comes off as one piece, not leaving behind small stuck-down pieces that ripped off in the process, which are a nightmare!
How to Remove the Floor Tape’s Remaining Adhesive
Once you’ve removed the floor tape, adhesive residue will likely remain. Remove the residue now; the longer it’s left, the tricker it is to remove.
You’ll need a bowl of hot water, two towels, and your scraper to clear the adhesive. Place the towels in hot water then on the adhesive residue. Leave the towels in place for a few minutes to warm the residue and let the liquid soak into the stubborn glue. Finally, get your scraper and use it to remove any leftovers.
If there is still some adhesive remaining, repeat the process until it’s all gone, you can also use H3508 Surface Cleaner for further assistance.
Why Might You Want to Remove Tape?
You might want to replace the grit tape after many years of use as the anti-slip properties have diminished. Replacing this strip of anti-slip tape will reinstate the required non-slip properties of the area. Another reason is tape edges have started to lift or a section is damaged. These areas must be cut out and replaced to restore slip resistance in that environment.
Does Semi-Permanent Tape Exist?
Suppose you are hosting an event and require an anti-slip solution for the temporary period of the event. To improve safety, you may temporarily want to add anti-slip tape to construction sites on semi-permanent platforms. Pop-up shops, which are all the rage, require safety solutions in the form of something temporary as they move across the country to various locations.
